Western Caribbean Cruise: Part 2
One of my favorite things about cruising (and having a balcony) is waking up in the morning and getting to see a new destination for the first time. On our fourth day, we woke up in Roatan, Honduras.
The view was spectacular,
and since we had a leisurely excursion departure time, we were able to enjoy the view at breakfast too.
It was fun seeing the other cruise ships parked at the same port. We were the lucky ones that got to park right at the dock so we didn't have to use a tender (a boat that functions like a bus) to get large amounts of people to shore.
We did have a short boat ride to the island that we were spending the day at.
We went to a perfect little island that had beautiful beaches, snorkeling, and was also an animal sanctuary so we got to experience all kinds of fun creatures.
We spent a lot of time swimming and playing in the sand. Everyone had so much fun!
We found this dead crab in the water, Mia and Joe thought it was pretty cool.
The pictures don't do justice to how perfectly blue the water was.
It was all fun and games until we took a break from swimming to eat lunch and Mia noticed that her arms had a rash and were really itchy. We learned that she was stung by a jellyfish and were told to ask the kitchen for white vinegar. We put lots of white vinegar on the sting and it healed up before we were back on the boat. The whole ordeal was quite traumatic for Mia so we spent the rest of our time on the island exploring and looking at animals.
One of the highlights of our trip was meeting and interacting with monkeys! This was such a cool experience for everyone except Maxwell. He wasn't a fan of monkeys jumping around him and on his head.
Joe was holding the food so he got the most action but the monkeys were crazy- they took our hats off and were jumping on all of us. It was quite the experience.
Maxwell is now terrified of monkeys. I really hope we didn't create a lifelong fear!
We didn't do the sea lion encounter since it was extra money but did sneak a quick peak at the HUGE sea lion. I had no idea that sea lions that live in the Western Caribbean were that big, one of the guides said they can get up to 500lbs!
On our way back to the ship (see it in the background?!).
Maxwell was exhausted and fell asleep in my arms.
Once we got back on the boat, we got everyone showered and let the kids veg in the room as we got ready for the Dreamworks Parade and dinner.
It was so fun seeing the kids beaming throughout the whole parade.
I know it's blurry but I couldn't resist the pure joy captured in this photo.
On the 3rd night (the night before we were in Roatan), we took a break from the main dining room and ate at one of the specialty restaurants. The service was amazing and the food was delicious! We put Maxwell in the nursery for this dinner since it wasn't a super kid-friendly atmosphere (we told the girls they needed to be on there best behavior and they were). It was really nice having a special dinner with just the girls.
Maxwell did get to join us for dessert since I got a call from the nursery that he was having a hard time. This boy has us all wrapped around his little finger.
Family, dessert, and a sunset, it doesn't get much better than that!
Stay tuned for Part 3...
