Letter of the week: Jj

Just a word of caution...I usually love the books in the Sound Box series but this one had a lot of words that were confusing for Mia, such as a jackrabbit, jack o'lantern, jonquil and jackal (I'm all about exposing Mia to a variety of words but these were a bit much). Peanut Butter and Jellyfishes is an alphabet book that is really creative and silly. I loved that even though the text was quite short, the illustrations included several pictures to represent each letter. The Story of Jesus is a great introduction to Jesus for the little ones.

J is for Jelly Beans

I bought a bag of jelly beans on clearance after Easter and decided to try and paint with them. Mia REALLY enjoyed this (or maybe she really enjoyed putting them in her mouth). Even though the color wasn't super bright, it was still really fun and I would recommend trying this if you have some jelly beans hiding in your pantry.

Once Mia was done painting, she put all of the jelly beans in the water. We talked about what would happen and she thought it was pretty cool that all the color came off of them and the water turned dark (see water below).

Lastly, she glued jelly beans to the Jj sheet. I put the glue on and let her put the jelly beans on.

We also did some uppercase/lowercase sorting. This was from a workbook but you could easily recreate this at home.

J is for Jellyfish

Supplies needed: plastic container (ours was from strawberries). crepe paper, ribbon, scissor, glue and a pipe cleaner.

Rub glue inside the container and stick on the crepe paper.

I held the container and rotated it once a side was full, but Mia did the rest on her own.

Once you are done gluing the crepe paper, you can also add some curling ribbon.

Attach pipe cleaner to the top and hang up to enjoy!

We had good intentions of going to see the jellyfish at the aquarium this week, but there was a snowstorm on the day we were planning on going. : (

J is for Jesus

I set up our Little People Nativity set on the art table for Mia to play with. We also used this to talk about where Jesus was born and who was there. I found this cute coloring sheet at Confessions of a Homeschooler.
